Drupal 8 – Expectations and future ideas for the innovative CMS | Storm Internet
Drupal covers around 2.1% of the websites around the world. The number might look small compared to other CMS platforms, but it is nonetheless an innovative system sculpted by intuitive developers. And, now with Drupal’s chief architect, Max Bronsema, working on Drupal, a number of new and user-friendly updates are expected to arrive soon.
When Max was interviewed about the latest Drupal under development, he had a lot in his mind to discuss about the latest version. Surely everything would be hard to discuss in such a short post, but what he had to say can be summed up into the following subs.
Learning template engines before upgrading
According to the chief developer, the next version of Drupal would be prudent only when developers are experienced in working on template engines and systems such as Contrib and Twig. This is necessary as Drupal 8 runs on D8 core, which requires Twig, a popular PHP-based theme engine.
Features being added to the new system
Max stated that Drupal 8 will cover up many new features, which would certainly improve the user’s experience. The addition of web services for native demographic areas, breakpoint support, and a responsive module for images are some of the many features being added to the new version. Furthermore, configuration procurement module is also being included in the system. It lets developers export any changes made to the staging platform directly from the development server. From there the files can be sent to the production zone without the need for synchronising or using nodes. Drupal 6 and 7 had some of the features but were not that capable as the ones in Drupal 8. On top of that, developers would now be able to move the whole site to another version as well.
Drupal 8 has been focused on a system where a comprehensive approach towards accomplishing a task is limited as much as possible. Long development cycles are being curbed with synchronised modules being added. The benefit of these modules is that they can be used with future versions of Drupal as well.
Even sites developed in Drupal 7 can be moved to Drupal 8 with ease. Tools like module upgrader can be used for a simple path towards upgrading the system. You can find guides with full instructions for the use of such modules on the official website of Drupal. The best thing about Drupal 8 is the native support it offers to the developers. With such support rendering will be faster with cache tag support as well. The increase in performance and speed is also committed to the new version, which will help developers and users run their websites smoothly. Optimisation with the new version is certainly at hand. Drupal 8 certainly took a lot of patience to develop. The hard work of the developing team has certainly created an intuitive system for the users. The changes in this system are inevitable for a smoother platform for sure. Learn more about it at the official website!
